Critical Earth Voltage Fault Corrective Plan

Why did POWEReasy trip?

The site has observed a high earth voltage event. IEEE1159 recommends that the earth voltage must be within 3V. The POWEReasy system warns at 3V but will only disconnect supply at a higher voltage as configured by the clients. These high earth voltage conditions can lead to electrocution. High earth voltages is an indicator for poor earthing and in case of stormy weather these sites become susceptible to surges that can damage equipments.

What could be the root cause of the earth voltage fault?

Earth voltage is measured between earth and neutral conductors. High earth voltages is observed due poor earthing, poor wiring related to earthing, exposed conductors, or in some cases degradation in electrical devices.

Can you use electricity under some precautions? What are these?

Users can choose to operate the facility with using protective rubber soled footwear when earth voltage is below 7V. For all other cases it is not recommended to use electricity till the cause of the high voltage is identified and isolated.
